Vietnam for honeymoon

15 May

20130515-173834.jpg

After flying for a whole day we have arrived to Vietnam! So far the food here is awesome and I have been more adventurous than usual, even eating fried food! Pictured above is a fried elephant ear fish. We ate it wrapped with rice paper and veggies.

Today we went on a private river tour. We had multiple stops along the way, each stop showing us a bit of the Vietnamese culture.

We watched rice being turned into popped rice (kind of tastes like popcorn) and Brandon drank some snake wine, I passed on that!

On the cruise they served us some cool exotic fruit. Dragon fruit, “red hairy egg” and “dragon eye”. Yumm. Wish we could grow these in the USA.

Tomorrow we are going to the local market to get some produce then we will be taking a cooking class and making lunch! Can’t wait. Will update more tomorrow. Xin chào!

Xin chào is the formal way of greeting and saying hello or goodbye.

Wegmans in Virgina

5 Apr

20130405-112207.jpg

Hi all. I am on my to Virginia!! I am in a car and have some time on my hands so I am going to write out this whole post on my phone and drive at the same time!! Just kidding (about the driving).

Whenever I travel I try to stop at a grocery store along the way to grab some healthy snacks that do not take preparation and can stay without refrigeration. I stopped at Wegmans food market (first time in there!) and saw they had breakfast sandwiches. Most of the sandwiches were already prepared with either cheese or bacon or both. I asked if they could make me an egg white on a whole wheat English muffin, no cheese or meat. It was simple and hit the spot.

After my breakfast I walked around and explored the store a little bit more. There was so much produce and the store just kept going and going. I really wanted to buy a green juice, but couldn’t find any. I am not sure if I missed them, but I was a bit disappointed at their juice selections.

I bought bananas, cucumbers, granola, almonds, cacao energy bites and a pear! Enough snacks to last me the weekend.

Do you have a Wegmans in your area? Supposedly one is opening in Boston!

Have a superb weekend :)

Wedding invitations by Lucky Penny Paperie

25 Feb

invitee

Most of my wedding invitations have been sent out and some are still on their way. But I am SO excited! It feels far more real now :)

I was searching for an invitation that would go with the “feel” and “theme” of our wedding. I wanted something chic, city, etherial, artsy but elegant  And I found it! I worked closely with Jessica the creator, artist and designer behind Lucky Penny and she was great. She personalized the invitation to make it more of what I wanted, and made little changes that made a HUGE difference. I found her while searching Etsy, and could not be happier. She was patient and went along with my ideas and worked with my budget!

My favorite part of the invitation is the invitation holder. It is a nice shimmery envelope and has a resealable sticker with our names on it and the wedding date! Gives the invitation a nice personal touch.

Wedding food tastings are my favorite. We went to about three different caterers, trying many dishes. I worked with the chef  in order to give my vegetarians some awesome food options. I am always excited when the vegetarian option at a wedding or event is NOT pasta. We came up with a filling, healthy and delicious vegetarian option. What better than quinoa and fresh vegetables! SCORE!

I will also be working with Jessica to help us create our wedding programs! This is so fun and exciting for me. Has anyone else found their wedding invitations? Where? Did you search online? Any luck on Etsy?

Wedding dress designers you haven’t heard of

3 Dec

This Temperley London dress was actually a consideration of mine…

This post on wedding dresses seems appropriate because not only have I had requests from readers to do more “wedding stuff” but a few weekends ago I went to NYC and finally gave my dress a GO! It is happening. My wedding dress is being made. And as you can tell from the picture below I get really excited when surrounded by wedding dresses!

An amazing designer/seamstress in NYC is working on the dress that we designed and put together. I found inspiration through many different styles and dresses. Through my dress search I came across certain features and detailing of dresses that I loved. Most of us have heard of Vera Wang, Jim Hjelm, Oscar de la Renta, and Reem Acra. But below is a list of designers that are not so popular. Many of them are London designers, and I found myself attracted to their styles. Hopefully you can find some inspiration!

Jenny Packham- The beautiful backs to her dresses caught my eye. Her dresses have amazing bead work and detailing.

Sarah Seven – A designer from the USA! Portland Oregon. Her dresses have frills, layers, and movement. Girly and oh so sweet. I love her accessories too!

Sarah Janks- Feminine. Beautiful backs. Sexy Elegance.

Temperly London- When I see these dresses I think elegance, sophistication and royalty. Lace and sleeves.

Amanda Wakeley- Light fabrics and not your traditional wedding dress. Her take on the staples dress is my favorite. London Designer. Her style reminds me a bit of Nicole Miller.

Clair Pettibone- Vintage feel. Most of her dresses have texture or lace. Very few are staples.

Penina Tournai- The first designer I fell in love with. Her work is amazing. So intricate and truly pieces of art. These dresses are for the avant guard bride and those with a larger budget! Israeli Designer.

J Crew- Simple. Elegant. And will not break the bank. We often look over J Crew, but they really have some beautiful dresses. Check them out for brides maid dresses too.

Nicole Miller – Simple BUT the little detailing will give you an edge. Most of these dresses are slim fitting. Some of these dresses are perfect for an outside wedding.

What are you favorite dress designers? What is your favorite style of dress?

OH and I made this last night. SO good, SO easy, you SO need to try it!

ingredients:

  • 7-10 FROZEN strawberries
  • 10-15 FROZEN blueberries
  • 1 FROZEN banana
  • Then add about 4-8oz of unsweetened almond milk (you can use coconut milk, rice milk, cows milk, whatever). Decide what consistency you like it and just play with how much milk you add in. Start adding the milk in slowly, because you can always add more. **if you do not have enough milk your blender will get jammed up.

Directions:

  • add all ingredients together in blender
  • blend
  • add more milk as needed
  • enjoy

Reebok Headquarters Cardio Dance Fusion Class

16 Nov

Yesterday I made my way to the Reebok Headquarters to lead the HR team through a cardio dance fusion class for their annual meeting. The class was held in the Crossfit gym where we had a great sound system and ample room to move around. I was so pleased with the group! They were awesome and totally rocked it. They laughed and sweat the whole time and were the perfect display of what I wish for in a dance class. Laid back fun people who love to sweat!

Whenever I go to the Reebok headquarters I always make sure I have time to shop! I bought some cool studded sneakers called “Princess” from the Alicia Keys line.

What do you think?? Today I am off to NYC with my mom for a dress fitting!!

Oh and check out these ones too! I saw my Equinox boss wearing them a few days ago. They are so fun… Alicia Keys as well.

Boston Fashion Week- Daniela Corte Runway Show

5 Oct

I was so excited to get invited to my first runway fashion show featuring Daniela Corte’s amazing work for Boston Fashion Week.

I can only imagine the amount of time and creativity that goes into designing all of the unique pieces, not to mention the production and execution of a runway show itself. Such amazing colors and patterns.

Check out a Video of the Runway Show here:

One thing I will eventually do is invest in a better camera. I totally think the shots I took do not do justice to the pieces. I loved the top above.

My favorite part of the show was when the models would turn around and the back of the dress or shirt would be something totally unexpected. I feel that Daniela did this a lot. I was always looking forward to viewing the back of the outfit!

The swimsuit portion of the show was awesome. But please refer to Daniel Gagnon Photography on Facebook, for better pictures of the event.

THE TENT, before the show began.

Mom and I at the show! What did I wear? I had the intention of wearing the DC Voltage Dress, but changed my mind last minute and decided to wear this DC high-waisted skirt, except in faux leather. PERFECT!

The kid in front of me had an awesome camera.  He was able to get greats shots of the models, no matter how fast they moved.

Overall, I LOVED the event and everything that went along with it. I finally got me meet Kelly Dooley, Creator of Body Rock Sports Bras!! She is just as spicy as I thought she would be.

Also… SUGAR lip balm in the welcome bag, score! Be sure to follow Daniela Corte-Studio on Facebook.
